Since 1973, Mark Roth has supplied custom-tied flies to fly-fishermen and fly shops, and since 1988 has specialized in designing framed fly plates, shadowbox kits, and custom fly framing for shops, fly collectors, the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Vermont, and others.

     I specialize in mounting and framing flies, and designing fly plates, in cherry frames and museum mats. The presentation is simple, conservation quality. On the left, Fly Plate #12, is 17" square, with the name of each fly hand-scribed below, and hand-drawn French lines on the matting, and a cherry veneer label with brass pins below the flies.

Over the past several years, I suspended tying flies (because of a shoulder issue), but now everything is fine, and I am back to tying flies.

     The flies are mounted in a recessed shadowbox-depth frame, mounted with a discreet wire wrapped snug around the fly body, allowing the fly to 'float' above the background, without the hackles getting squashed, and giving a three-dimensional presentation behind the glass. I mill my frames from scratch from solid cherry wood. After milling, the frames are sanded smooth, dressed with linseed oil, rubbed, and waxed for a natural matte finish.
